Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (OLD)

In the Primary

The topic of diversity, and of teaching children to understand, embrace and grow from our differences, is developed from the earliest days of the preschool. Students learn throughout their years to respect oneself and others around them in a diversity curriculum that begins with understanding oneself and broadens over the course of their Primary schooling to include their classmates, their city, their community, their countries and the world around them.

A special emphasis on tapping the depth of cultural experiences inherent in the community culminates each December in the school's award-winning "Our Day of Understanding". Developed in partnership with the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding, the program invites children from pre-K through fifth grade to learn about their own cultural heritage through symbols and to share them with their fellow classmates, teachers and parents. The Tanenbaum Center has honored the program for being one of the few diversity programs of its kind in the City of New York.
