Student Life

Athletics

Beyond acquiring pure sport skills, students participating in our competitive athletics leagues learn the value of perseverance, commitment, leadership, team spirit, initiative, courage and respect for themselves and others.

Director of Athletics, John Burpoe

Our aim is to see students develop a love for the game — to enjoy, to learn, and to develop friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime.
A full two-thirds of our secondary-school students participate in any of our 43 after-school competitive athletics teams, with levels of play from sixth grade to junior varsity and varsity teams across most sports. Our students wear the Lycée colors proudly against top New York City independent schools in basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and table tennis. Our coaches, many of whom are former professional athletes, work with our students to develop excellence in sports, from skills to strategy to leadership and teamwork.

Students train and compete in either of our two full-size gymnasiums or outside of the Lycée at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island, Octagon Field on Roosevelt Island or Central Park North Meadow.
