Students
Many Secondary students participate in student-led affinity and alliance groups which provide spaces for individuals to come together in celebration of a shared identity that has been historically underrepresented at the Lycée. Student leaders of these groups develop their leadership skills by facilitating meetings where group members celebrate their shared identities, share their experiences, plan school-wide events, and provide each other with peer support as they learn to practice empathy and foster belonging.
Each student-led affinity group is supported by a trained adult advisor who either shares the same affinity or is an ally of the group. Student leaders stand behind their motto, "If you're not uncomfortable, you're not learning," as they work with maturity to confront the challenges facing themselves, classmates and our society.
Club members are active leaders in developing programs for the Secondary School, including:- Leadership and planning in collaboration with the DEIB Team and the Secondary English Department of the annual James Baldwin Day program for high-school students
- Workshops on race relations, immigration, (dis)ability, gender and women's rights for students at all grade levels in Secondary,
- Mental health awareness and destigmatization, through trainings, workshops and zines
- LBGTQ+ Day of Silence, OUT for Safe Schools training for faculty and staff
- Black Lives Matter community action
- Participation in student leadership conferences, including NAIS Student Civic Leadership Summit and the The Dalton Conference
- Cultural Center programming
The Coalition
Student activities are organized in an umbrella organization, The Coalition, comprising student co-leaders of all affinity/alliance groups. This group meets regularly to steer the work of the affinity groups throughout the year to collaborate on joint events that celebrate the Lycée's diversity, practice civic leadership and dialogue, and provide feedback to the administration as a unified body of student leaders.

A Partnership with Our Families
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging activities for parents-guardians are led by the Lycée's parents' association (Association des parents d’élèves du Lycée - APL) in close collaboration with the school's leadership team and DEIB Team.
With parents coming from many different countries and backgrounds, DEIB is in some cases a new topic for many of our families. The APL works carefully and intentionally to help build understanding of the school's efforts.
