Development Associate

Position Summary
The Lycée Français de New York, a world-leading independent bilingual French K-12 educational institution, recognizes the strategic role of development, fundraising and data in informing, assessing, and advancing the school's core educational objectives and in enabling a strong financial and operational foundation.
The Development Associate plays a pivotal role in the school’s Development department. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Associate will have a particular focus on the planning and execution of the school’s community and donor events and on supporting the overall communications needs of the department. The Associate will also serve as a key point of contact for the event co-chairs, consultants, and volunteers, providing essential support throughout the planning for events. In addition, the Development Associate will provide general administrative support to colleagues across the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties outlined below are considered to be the most significant responsibilities of the Development Associate and are essential for effective performance in this position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide back-up support to the Community Events Manager on the Department’s key annual community events;
  • Participate in community event and Gala committee meetings, including scheduling, preparation of agendas, maintaining minutes and administrative support;
  • Coordinate with internal and outside vendors and partners to ensure the success of community events;
  • Serve as point person for the Gala Silent Auction;
  • Take the lead on development-related communications initiatives, including emails, invitations, website, social media (@lfnygala), and content development for promotional materials across the department to ensure coherence in messaging and look and feel;
  • Assist with retail operations (Spirit Store and retail partnership initiatives);
  • Serve as the administrative point person for the department: credit card reconciliation, expense tracking, ordering supplies, maintaining the master calendar; etc.
  • Serve as department representative on the school Calendar Committee;
  • All Development staff have a shared responsibility to help maintain an accurate,  up-to-date and useful Raiser’s Edge database; as such, enter information on constituent contacts into the database in a timely manner;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education and experience)
  • One - two years of experience in development or advancement work; recent college graduates with demonstrated interest in advancement and/or marketing will be considered 
  • French language skills (written and verbal) are required
Skills and Competencies:
  • Self-starter with demonstrated flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve institutional goals;
  • Advanced skills in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Experience with design, content management, and communication tools like Canva, Constant Contact, MailChimp, WordPress, etc. is helpful;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines with grace and good humor;
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills (with all constituents and colleagues);
  • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information with complete discretion;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding environment 
  • Highly organized and attentive to details  
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed in support of Development events

Annual salary range: $50,000-$55,000
