The Lycée Français de New York is a world-leading independent bilingual French K-12 institution that recognizes student safety and well-being as its primary responsibilities. Our community is guided by our mission and our core values which serve as the internal compass for our actions and behaviors.
As a student-centered institution, we are dedicated to building a community of teaching and learning that is inclusive, culturally sensitive, and equitable, ensuring every individual feels a profound sense of belonging. Our mission is to prepare students from diverse origins to be thinkers, innovators, and leaders who are at home in the world. By delivering a bilingual French and American education of the highest standard through our holistic framework, we inspire students to excel academically, discover their unique talents, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The Head of Elementary School (HoES) leads Grades 1 through 4. Recognizing that the Elementary School technically comprises Grades 1 through 5, the Lycée strategically places Grade 5 (CM2) under the leadership of the Head of Middle School to ensure a smooth and ambitious transition to the Secondary cycle. Consequently, the HoES must maintain a high level of efficient collaboration with the Head of Middle School to ensure divisional continuity.
A member of the Executive Team, the HoES works in support of the vision articulated by the Head of School by designing and implementing Elementary School policies, programs, and curricular activities in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional growth of each faculty and staff member.
The HoES ensures compliance with the Mission Statement of the School, the French Ministry of Education, the New York City Department of Health, and other relevant regulations. The HoES serves as an ambassador and advocate for the school in all venues.
The HoES should be a self-starting, resourceful, well-organized team player with the ability to work well under pressure, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and work effectively in a bilingual, multicultural environment.
At the Lycée, students are at the center of the system. All employees are expected to provide encouragement, offer positive reinforcement, and show respect for each student and each other. All employees are also expected to truly and enthusiastically believe in the Lycée’s Mission while supporting the vision of the Head of School and the Board of Trustees.
