For our students, the College Counseling Office is a gateway from the Lycée Français de New York to life far beyond.
Our college counselors work with students one-on-one beginning in Grade 9, as they prepare to apply to colleges, universities, French classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles, and other academic programs all over the world. Our focus is on helping each student find the best fit, ensuring a smooth and successful transition to their next chapter.
Guidance from Expert College Counselors
Working always with our students’ interests and passions in mind, the College Counseling team’s mission is to:
- Educate each student about their post-Baccalaureate options,
- Serve as a trusted resource for advice about the application process, and
- Empower students in their decision-making.
Our College Counseling team is composed of five professionals with extensive experience in US and international higher education and admissions, as well as counseling and support. We bring students and their families a deep understanding of the application processes in the United States, Canada, France, and the United Kingdom, as well as dual-degree international programs.
Our counselors regularly visit colleges globally to meet with admissions professionals, ensuring they remain current on the latest trends and opportunities for our students.
Our students come to the conversation about post-secondary education with unique experiences: achievement in a rigorous academic program, knowledge of an inter-connected world, and a commitment to make a difference in it throughout their lives. In turn, as college counselors, we listen, support, and guide them and their families in preparation for the transition from the Lycée to the next step in their educational journey.
Individual Support
Our comprehensive college counseling program guides students and their families through all phases of high school, ensuring a personalized and supportive path to college success.

- Students meet with the Early College Counselor to begin discussing future goals.
- Families are invited for coffee hours to have their questions answered and receive personalized guidance on academic and extracurricular choices.

- The year ends with a half-day bootcamp on application strategies, managing stress, and refining essays.
Grade 12: Bringing It All Together
Senior year is a time of intense focus, action, and continuous support to finalize applications and enrollment choices.
- The team hosts workshops and meets regularly with each student to finalize college lists and application materials.
- We host the Council of International Schools (CIS) Fair, with visits from nearly 80 university recruiters from around the world in the fall.
- We provide continuous support from the first acceptance through the final enrollment decision.
- The team is available daily until 5pm for comprehensive student support and guidance.
The panels, events, and fairs that the Lycée College Counseling team organizes prepare you so well. The counselors also bring so much experience, as many come from the other side. They understand the admissions officer’s perspective, and know exactly what to do. College Counseling at the Lycée is not a formula that can be applied to everyone. Every student is different, and the counselors know how to work with each student’s interests and experiences to help them get where they want to go.
Supporting Standardized Testing Preparation
Standardized tests are an important part of the college application process. We’ve partnered with Alpha Prep to offer virtual and in-person test preparation for the SAT and ACT. Families can sign up for these services directly with Alpha Prep, and discounted rates may be available. These programs are offered weekly and during school breaks to minimize school day interruptions.
While we recommend Alpha Prep, our office also provides a list of other test preparation resources for families who prefer different options.
In addition, the Lycée makes it easy for our students by administering the PSAT in school for all students in Grades 10 and 11. We also host AP exams on campus every May for students enrolled in our Advanced Placement courses. For the SAT or ACT, students are responsible for registering directly with the College Board or ACT and selecting a local test site.
A comprehensive roadmap for our families
