Educating for Confidence, Joy, and Resilience in a World of Complexity, Change, and Responsibility

At the Lycée, educational excellence is grounded in a clear-eyed understanding of the world, a deep belief in the combined power of rigor and joy to nurture learning, and confidence in young people’s capacity to shape the future.

Our approach to French-American bilingualism goes far beyond language acquisition. Learning in two languages and cultures develops cognitive flexibility, adaptability, empathy, and a genuine ease with multiple perspectives—foundations for students to build positive relationships, exercise critical judgment, solve complex problems, and engage thoughtfully with the world.

Our Bicultural Educational Approach

Two educational traditions. One coherent approach.

Together, the French and American educational traditions form a coherent, rigorous, and humanistic framework for learning from preschool through high school—rooted in an authentic global context and consistently attentive to developmental appropriateness, meaningful support, and the growth of the whole child.

The French National Curriculum

  • Sustained emphasis on critical thinking, reasoning, and academic depth
  • Strong conceptual foundations and intellectual precision
  • Spiraled progression of knowledge and skills

American Independent School Education

  • Creative and flexible approaches to learning
  • Student agency, leadership, and voice
  • Experiential learning and meaningful real-world application

At the Lycée, these traditions come together to create:

  • A rigorous, coherent, and developmentally appropriate academic pathway
  • Advanced bilingual proficiency and authentic intercultural understanding
  • Intentional scaffolding of skills and competencies, along with care and support at every stage
  • High expectations paired with joyful, purposeful engagement

The Human Capacities Students Need Today—and Tomorrow

In the 21st century, education must cultivate the enduring human capacities that allow young people to understand the world, navigate complexity, and act with judgment and purpose.

Our bilingual, bicultural curriculum provides a shared academic framework across all divisions—from Preschool to Elementary School to Middle School and High School—ensuring continuity, coherence, and growth at every stage of learning. Educational excellence emerges through the combination of rigorous academics, rich co-curricular experiences, and a school culture grounded in belonging, care, and high expectations.

We intentionally develop:

Deep Thinking and Focus

21st-Century Literacies

Ethical Judgment, Agency, and Adaptability

Perspective and Empathy

Trust, Care, and Belonging

Rigor for the 21st Century

Rigor remains essential—but it looks different today.

At the Lycée, rigor is intellectual, cognitive, and ethical, not rigid. A challenging curriculum, intentionally balanced with well-being and joy in learning, asks students to engage deeply, persist with commitment, and discover new interests.

By emphasizing higher-order thinking across disciplines, we strengthen literacy in its broadest sense and prepare students not only to know, but to adapt, judge, and act with purpose.

Growing Upward and Outward

From early childhood through graduation, students grow upward—toward increasingly complex forms of thinking—and outward—toward engagement with the world beyond themselves.

Grounded in realistic optimism, our approach is both attentive to today’s realities and adaptable for tomorrow. By integrating bilingual academic excellence, belonging and well-being, and engagement and leadership around a shared mission, the Lycée educates the whole student.

Rooted in a shared set of values—solidarité-community, ténacité-commitment, esprit de découverte-open minds, and épanouissement-joy, our students learn to be curious, courageous, and caring—prepared to act with judgment and purpose in an uncertain, evolving world.
