Built for Learning and Growth
The Lycée Français de New York’s 178,000-square-foot campus—designed by Ennead and opened in 2003—brings all students, from Nursery to Grade 12, under one roof.
Known for its bright, safe environment and specialized learning spaces, the school was expanded in 2016 with the 20,000-square-foot York Wing. This addition created new innovative spaces, including a media lab and a makerspace, to enhance collaborative, hands-on learning experiences.
Key Campus Highlights
- Auditorium: Our 354-seat auditorium is the heart of our Cultural Center. With state-of-the-art audio visual equipment and sound systems, it hosts student performances in theater, dance, and music, as well as exciting programs and events for our school community and the wider public.
- Athletic Spaces: At over 12,000 square feet, our two gymnasiums provide regulation-size basketball courts and facilitate a wide range of sports, including volleyball, soccer, gymnastics, and even rock climbing.
- Rooftop Playground: Our youngest students enjoy a dedicated rooftop playground with a playing field, safe padded flooring, and equipment for creative play.
- Media Lab and Makerspace: Students have access to a digital media lab with a working production space and TV studio, as well as a makerspace stocked with tools for hands-on, creative problem-solving.
- Art and Music Rooms: Our Preschool, Elementary and Secondary schools each have their own dedicated music and art rooms. These specialized spaces are fully equipped with a wide range of instruments, tools, and materials to foster creativity.
- Libraries: The school features two libraries—one for Primary School students and one for Secondary School students—each designed to support research, reading, and independent learning in a welcoming environment.
- Cafeteria: Our 225-seat cafeteria features a full-service kitchen that provides freshly cooked, healthy, organic meals.
A Commitment to Sustainability
We are proud to be a leader in environmental stewardship. Our buildings are Gold LEED certified, a testament to our commitment to creating a healthy and sustainable learning environment.
The design prioritizes natural qualities and eco-friendly practices, including:
- Abundant Natural Light: Our buildings are designed with large windows to maximize natural sunlight, reducing our reliance on artificial lighting and heating.
- Green Spaces: An exterior green roof and landscaped terraces connect our community with nature.
- Renewable Energy: The Lycée has a wind turbine and a solar array on our rooftops that generate enough renewable energy to power two-to-three classrooms on a sunny day! We also purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to further offset our carbon footprint.
- Water and Energy Conservation: The school utilizes low-flow plumbing, and our facilities teams use digital dashboards to monitor energy usage, developing strategies to reduce consumption.
- Partnership with Students: Lycée student eco-delegates collaborate with the Facilities Team to propose ways to make the school more sustainable through such activities as enhanced recycling and composting practices, electronics recycling drives and general environmental awareness.
- Certified in the U.S. and in France: The Lycée has received EFE3D-Level 3 certification, the highest possible, from the French Ministry of Education for its global commitment to sustainable development in terms of its infrastructure and its educational programs.
