Lycée Français de New York is an accredited private school committed to bilingual French and American education of the highest standard. Our mission is to prepare students of many origins to be thinkers, innovators and leaders, at home in the world.

For the 2026-2027 school year, we have an opening for a full time Assistant in Primary. Unless otherwise specified all duties for this position are performed in person, on campus, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm. The work schedule is based on students’ schedule and may be adjusted from time to time by the Lycée in accordance with its needs.

The ideal candidate has experience working with primary school-aged children, has some level of proficiency in French and English, and has worked with a teaching team.  The job consists of following all core expectations set by the Lycée for in-classroom instructional support staff.

The assistants’ core responsibilities include compliance with the policies and procedures of the Lycée and performance of extracurricular, administrative and student supervision duties of an assistant, including but not limited to:

• Before and after school supervision of students
• Working in a primary classroom during the day to help the teachers with student supervision including during recess time, material preparation, monitoring the children’s health and safety (This may include helping to change soiled clothes following the sanitary protocol in preschool, serving lunch, light cleaning/organizing during the school day, helping during rest time,
• Help the class to document activities and events (i.e. take pictures or videos) so the teachers could post.
• Develop technology skills as needed.
• Participate in all required training and meetings, including professional development. Working in our preschool program requires additional training that will be organized by the Director of the Preschool.
• Primary assistants may need to be present for supervision during class time if one of the primary teachers is absent.

Assistants must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the position for the scheduled time each day including the necessity to be present at school to supervise and interact with students, the ability to travel around the school facility and the ability to communicate clearly to students and staff.

Vacations:

School vacation dates are established annually. Assistants must participate in meetings organized immediately before and after the class schedule of the school year.

Evaluation:

Performance evaluation is conducted periodically under the leadership of the evaluators (assigned homeroom teachers), according to the procedures established by the Lycée.

Compensation:

The annual base salary being offered is commensurate with experience, based on our internal salary grid and ranges from $43,998 (step 1) to $54,508 (step 15).

This 12-month, full-time role serves as the operational point person for parent communication, student dismissal tracking, and preschool aftercare staff coordination. Annual Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000

For the 2026-2027 school year, Lycée Français de New York is seeking part-time staff to join our After-School team. This versatile role involves supporting the safety, well-being, and active engagement of students ranging from preschool through elementary age (3–10 years old).

Key Responsibilities

• Supervision: Lead and/or supervise children during indoor and outdoor recess, snack time, and indoor free play.
• Activity Support: Provide essential support to after-school club teachers and/or lead specific activities such as storytime or art projects for younger learners.
• Student Safety: Play a key role in ensuring a secure and supportive environment for all children during after-school hours.
• Dismissal: Assist with the organized dismissal of children at the end of the day.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Prior experience working with school-age and/or preschool-age children is required. Candidates should be comfortable working collaboratively with students, teachers, and staff.
• Education Mindset: Must be a supportive team player capable of engaging with different developmental stages (especially children under 4 and/or elementary students ages 5–10).
• Language Skills: Bilingualism in French and English is required for preschool-focused roles and highly preferred (though not required) for elementary monitoring roles.Employment Details

The Assistant to Student & Community Life is responsible for ensuring the well-being and safety of Secondary students while upholding community rules and agreements throughout the portion of the school day they oversee.

They support students in being their best selves, uphold  rules and regulations, support student respect and responsibility, and oversee daily activities, attendance, social interactions, and student spaces during their free time and recess.

They collaborate with various staff members and students to provide necessary support. They support an inclusive school by helping the Secondary Student & Community Life department with additional duties such as maintaining a clean environment and helping with duties such as decorating, set up and strike for special daytime events, and oversee student recess and special activities.
