In addition to the fulfillment of their professional duties of classroom teaching, the teachers’ responsibilities include compliance with the policies and procedures of the Lycée and performance of the extracurricular, administrative, and counseling duties of a teacher, including but not limited to:
a. attendance and participation in teachers’ meetings, parent/teacher meetings, open houses, admissions evaluations for prospective students, and related events as scheduled by the Lycée,
b. participation in the various activities of the Lycée such as cultural and community events, and other student- or school-related activities,
c. Depending on the level of the class you will be assigned to, you will be required to take part in the organization, the accompaniment and the supervision of an overnight school trip (classe de découverte),
d. contribution to the development of the Lycée’s curriculum and participation in training sessions provided by or approved by the Lycée,
e. development of the full abilities and academic potential of each student, availability to counsel and assist students outside of the classroom and promotion of the goals and purposes of the Lycée,
f. maintenance of proper classroom conduct and behavior of students, including adherence to Lycée policies and procedures,
g. conduct of the teacher in an appropriate and professional manner, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Lycée (as currently in effect and/or as modified from time to time),
h. attend French or English classes in order to reach proficiency in these two languages and attend cultural training to gain familiarity with both cultures,
i. other tasks and duties as assigned by the Lycée.
Professional development days conducted during the school year are mandatory and the staff must demonstrate flexibility to the scheduling of the professional development days.
The teachers are expected to fully respect the philosophy of the school as set forth in the Mission Statement of the Lycée Français de New York, as well as to be loyal to the institution.
At the Lycée Français de New York, “the student is at the center of the system.’’ All teachers are expected to provide encouragement, offer positive reinforcement, show respect for each student and help all students perform at their highest academic level.
French citizens will fully assume their role as representatives of the French culture abroad.
Vacations:
School vacation dates are established annually. Teachers may be required to assist with the administration of national exams and/or exams organized by the Lycée. They must participate in meetings organized immediately before and after the class schedule of the school year.
Evaluation:
Conducted annually under the leadership of the supervisors, according to the procedure established by the Lycée, and utilizing the French pedagogical inspectors, and/or American consultants as deemed appropriate by the Lycée.
