Academics & Activities
Academic excellence is central to the mission of the Lycée Français de New York. From the earliest experiences with language and mathematics through the AP courses offered in the high school, the Lycée has always placed a premium on academics. Pedagogical and technological innovation is encouraged (SmartBoards are installed in every classroom), but best practices and curricular standards (French and American) are always applied.
From the earliest ages, learning is blended with other activities to stimulate and promote the growth of our students as well-rounded citizens. Beginning at the Primary level, students can choose from a wide range of extracurricular activities in addition to their academic courses. These activities include thirty sports teams as well as less traditional after-school sports such as fencing and martial arts. Musicians enjoy the school band, chorus, orchestra and various small ensembles, as well as the numerous rock bands formed by groups of students on their own. Other performing arts include the musical theater group, French and English language drama clubs, and after-school salsa dancing.
Eleventh and twelfth graders devote a portion of their time to working with our staff of college counselors, who prepare our students to apply to colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada, as well as French universities and preparatory schools. A significant number of our seniors also apply for (and receive) admission into top universities in the UK and other countries.
Through our curriculum, support, and extracurricular activities, the Lycée Français de New York is able to offer our students the full benefit of a traditional French education as well as the opportunities and open possibilities available in the best American independent schools.
